NEW YORK (AP) – A New York City bus sped off a street and dangled on an overpass late Thursday in an accident that seriously injured the driver, police said.
The vehicle, an articulated bus, crashed shortly after 11 p.m. at the junction between the Cross Bronx and Major Deegan expressways.
Videos captured by bystanders showed that part of the bus was still resting on the bridge, while the other half was dangling almost completely vertically, with the battered front end resting on the freeway ramp below.
According to the New York Fire Department, eight passengers suffered light to non-life-threatening injuries. The passengers and the driver were taken to hospitals for treatment.
