ROCHESTER, NY (WROC) – The New York State Police are warning the public not to leave vacation packages on the porch.

One study found that over 20 million Americans have reported vacation packages stolen by veranda pirates on their doorstep. A New York State Trooper expects that number to increase this season due to the pandemic.

Soldier James O’Callaghan said the best you can do is install a recording device like a video doorbell. “If you have video evidence that would help us. This is also a good deterrent because when they see that they know they are in front of the camera. “

State Police said they are also seeing a spike in car break-ins and that you should always make sure you lock your vehicle and take important items out of the car – even if it’s parked in your driveway.
