The OBSERVER won first place in this year’s New York News Publishers Association for entries submitted in the 2019 Newspaper Continuing Excellence competition for newspapers under 10,000.

That year, John D’Agostino won Page Design / Presentation for the cover of the November 28th issue. The issue, published on Thanksgiving, featured Linda Niedbalski of Fredonia and how she learned to walk after losing her legs after a massive heart attack nearly three years ago.

This is the third time D’Agostino has received NYNPA’s first prize for page design. Previously, he won second place for column writing for the New York Associated Press Association in 2015 and 2016.

D’Agostino is the regional editor of OBSERVER, the Postal Journal and the Times Observer in Warren, Pennsylvania. He lives in Fredonia with his wife Catherine. You have two children.

Since 2000, OBSERVER has received 11 NYNPA awards and 17 NYNAPA awards.
